*Read Pdf é You Believers Ø You Believers Is A Powerful, Cathartic Story Of Casual Evil And Of How The Worst Things Can Be Faced So That We Might Not Only Survive, But Grow A Young Woman Goes Missing, And Her Mother Uproots Her Life To Find Her Daughter But It Is Not Just The Heartbreak Or The Deep Mystery Of The Hunt For Lost Loved Ones That Bradley So Convincingly Explores Rather, With The Help Of An Amazingly Dedicated Searcher, Family And Friends Somehow Learn To Move Past Unspeakable Horror And Celebrate The Tenacity Of The Human Spirit Offering A Vision That Is At Once Ruthless And Utterly Compassionate, Bradley Renders The Search For Logic, Meaning, Redemption And Even Hope In The Domino Force That Is Human NaturePart Southern Gothic, Part Crime, Part Haunting Suspense Story, You Believers Takes Us On An Infinitely Harrowing Journey That Rewards The Reader With Insight Into How We Might Endure Horrible Events With Faith, Strength, And Grace Even While It Reveals The Ripple Effects Of Random Violence This was a well written book A heartbreaking account of a horrific murder Yet, all the way through, I kept assuming it was a suspense novel and that what appeared to be clues she was smart and fast She would do whatever it took to get out of this mess alive were planted for a purpose That the persona, Randy, was planted for a purpose and would play some part in the resolution of the story I was disappointed to discover that this wasn t really a story, at all, it was a situation I felt misled, almost cheated, by the way it ended. I recieved an ebook copy of You Believers through Netgalley and proceeded to sit on it for a month or two I m not sure why except that the book is extremely depressing and dark and my mood lately has resulted in the need to avoid anything as honestly terrifying as this book is I am placing this on my literary horror shelf but other readers may disagree The book isstraight up fiction but the eloquence and honesty with which the author wrote elevated the book in my esteem The story telling is masterful.Set in North Carolina, You Believers is a crime story, reminiscent of In Cold Bloodso for the perspectives than anything else Katy Connor has gone missing but there is little mystery as to what happened to her The story focuses on Katy s family, how they deal, and on Shelby Waters, a woman who has also suffered and who now helps people find missing loved ones This book is about loss and acceptance, in the most basic definitions To lose a child is the most devastating and horrific thing I can imagine for anyone, regardless of the child s age, their personal history, or the amount of goodness residing within Every person on the world came from someone Murderers and rapists have parents too That may be an inane comment but I think people tend to look at things from limited perspectives Bradley has written something that made me feelthan most anything else I have read this year and made me think about the different types of loss, from the loss of innocence, the loss of the ideal imagine we may try to hold onto of another person, and the loss of fear and denial we all possess at times Obviously, I m not a deep thinker but Bradley is Her characters were painfully real Her dialogue was incredible I did not want to know much of what was revealed but the story would have suffered with sugar coating I am further saddened since I fear Bradley may have suffered a personal loss to be able to write like this If not, then she has an incredible talent for digging into people and seeing the truth Jesse is one of the most evil characters I have ever read, made entirely worse by the fact that I know for a fact people like him exist I am sure I have passed many on the street I blame this book for much of the mindless crap I have been reading I needed to get this book out of my head, if only for awhile Picking up something horrific was nearly comforting because this book truly scared me This is the type of terror people who read horror on a regular basis do not want to experience This is what I try to escape from when I read any of my supernatural crap about monsters and blood doom and gloom Consider this to be Nancy Grace with tact, feelings, and some spirituality in a non offensive sense Limited sensationalism with a heart A percentage of the profits of this book go to an organization in NC which helps to find missing persons. A story of a girl missing, a girl saved and numerous who plummet someplace in between All the characters are damaged and because of this, sympathetic The characters pose the question when you become a victim, is it better to be killed or be a survivor It examines what happens after a horrifying incident, how we are changed how we move on or why we don t.I found myself unable to put this book down It is not possible to disengage from what is happening to all the characters psychologically, and because of this, it is an exhausting read For those who have never experienced anything similar to the situation told in the story, hold on, because you are about to For survivors of events, I warn the pages may contain a great deal of triggers that will be hard to get through For example, there is a rape scene that is viewed from the perspective of the victim Not a read to be considered lightly, but worthwhile to examine if you have the strength to face human helplessness and the grace to rise above it.WARNING THIS IS NOT FOR YA AT ALL THIS BOOK IS GRAPHIC AND VERY HARD TO READ ON MANY SENSITIVE SUBJECTS.5 Stars Really a mixed bag The good stuff great character development and insight into the minds of two criminals a page turner gritty and intense crime scenes not for the squeamish from both the criminal s and victim s point of view the mystery is well paced and unfolds with just the right amount of suspense and clues As you learn bits and pieces of the criminals activities but don t yet know what happened, you believe for a while because you want to, need to, believe that the victim escaped, but you have a dread that it will end badly But there are lots of things wrong with this book A theme of godliness drove me nuts The story opens with way too many references to God I don t like religious books I hoped it would not be an ongoing theme and for a while it was not Then came a long, plodding chapter about a minor character sitting in a church, asking himself sophomoric questions about God I skipped most of that chapter The writer was shoving religion down my throat and I resented it Also, the author ruins a poignant interview of a survivor by throwing in woo woo stuff the victim apparently was channeling another victim please stop. The good characters were all one dimensional, vanilla The mother and daughter had the same personality toughie yet god fearing and uninteresting southern chicks and the woman investigating the crime was similar except she didn t buy into the god stuff The characters weren t hip or interesting enough The only interesting characters were the two criminals and the grandmother of one of them.As another reviewer said, the book should have been a hundred pages shorter The author droned on about the same sentiments over and over, and we were subjected to a barrage of the characters words and thoughts about sadness The endless angst which seemed shallow and predictable it wasn t even presented in engaging language plus the preachy tone dulled the book s impact.
