Hold onto your Tartan, this Highlander romance is passionate, tender and HOT The Sweet Surrender of Janet Buchanan by Paula Quinn is a romance filled with a hunk of a Scottish Highlander, a feisty strong willed woman and a storyline that is perfect for this sweet novella This is the story of Janet Buchanan and Darach Grant, who have this wonderful distaste for each other, but also an unbelievable attraction to each other She has a mind of her own and is no man s possession He is arrogant, confident and adept with the ladies and never shares the same bed twice The story begins with Janet being ceremoniously offered up in marriage to save an attack on the castle and lands her brother is steward of This is suppose to be just a delay tactic, while they wait for the true lord of the castle, Malcolm MacGregor, to come and protect his keep While Malcolm is otherwise engaged, he sends none other than Darach Grant, the man who stole Janet s heart and left many months ago But that s all he sends Janet doesn t know which is worse, being married off to save the castle or having Darach back in her life, and him being the sole answer to her problem makes it even worse The banter between them is funny and sweet, and stinging at times AND it is wonderful The romance starts of teasing us and then it is hot, HOT, HOT As soon as I started reading this story, I could not stop The writing is wonderful Paula Quinn sets the stage with an authentic Scottish landscape, wonderful characters that are fully fleshed out, and a believable fun romance. My only complaint with The Sweet Surrender of Janet Buchanan is that is was too short I thought Janet and Darach deserved to their story, and the ending seemed a bit abrupt But this is a novella and just a little present to the readers of her The MacGregors Highland Heirs series This book is 1.5 in the series, so I can only hope Janet and Darach make another appearance Setting Fall, early 18th century. Why this book has to be novella Only if it were a bit longer, I would rate it 5 solid stars I loved the main characters Darach has great and Janet is feisty, and their romance was sweet The suspense scenes were enjoyable too.Recommended.RD Oct 7, 2014. Nothing spectacular about this story but it is a solid Paula Quinn tale I do think the Mist franchise has reached its end though The story is too short to really have something going between Darach and Janet but they had a history so that helped Little romance, one sex scene, a very very very rebellious heroine so not my thing but it obviously is Darach s and a obnoxious hero Paula Quinn writes well but I really hope that she comes up with a new series or leave her Mist peeps behind her sooner than later. The Sweet Surrender of Janet Buchanan is number 1.5 in The MacGregors Highland Heirs I ve been waiting with patience no, that s a lie I have been so anxious for Darach s book it could have something to do with my adoration of his father Finn I wasn t disappointed at all.Janet Buchanan was promised to marry Roddie Menzie it would happen over her dead body Janet s brother, as steward to Ravenglade, agreed to the marriage as a delay tactic to keep the warring Menzie clan from invading and killing all of the soldiers defending the keep of Malcom MacGregor If Janet would marry Roddie, he would end his attacks on the castle Their only hope would be if Malcom and his army could come in time to defeat the Menzies and stop the farce of a marriage before it happened Malcom was otherwise occupied and sent an army of one Darach Grant.Darach, son of a legendary Bard, was of a fighter but still had a wee bit of a poet s heart in him, though he tried hard to keep that fact hidden from his cousins Malcom convinced Darach to go to his holding to protect it from the Menzies, who were determined to take it over Darach would rather be with his cousins, chasing down pirates who had abducted Malcom s sister, but he went to Ravenglade He stood a fair chance at winning the battle against the Menzies, but against Janet Buchanan he was helpless When I met Darach and Janet the first time in The Seduction of Miss Amelia Bell, I knew they were a perfect match Darach, the Casanova of Scotland, never thinks about a lass after he has leaves her bed, and he doesn t grace the same bed twice But he can t seem to get the fiery, contrary Janet out of his mind and he s never even bedded her Janet has lost her heart to the feckless Darach, who cares for nothing but his own pleasure and fighting When they get together the sparks fly and tempers clash and I fall in love with them I not only fell in love with the tender side of the warrior who saved fair Janet, but I fell in love with the heroine in this story too Janet is a woman after my own heart, taking control of her own future, not waiting for mere men to do the job for her There were so many poignant moments in this novella, I had trouble picking the one that moved me the most, but I think I ll choose the scene with the pipes and Darach leaning on the castle wall I listened to Paula s playlist found in her bonus section at www.paulaquinn.com that she used while writing this book and I highly recommend you do the same Ms Quinn is permanently on my auto buy list and I am anxiously awaiting each new book Even though this was a novella, it had substance than most full length books I ve been reading lately Next up is The Wicked Ways of Alexander Kidd, due to be released October 28th 2014 yes, I ve pre ordered it In the meantime, download this one and enjoy the afternoon with a sexy roguish Highlander and the bane of his existence, Janet Until Next Time xxoo Terree Fireworks Fly Passion Flares Fireworks fly and passion flares as Janet and Darach try to resist their attraction to each other I loved this novella, as usual Paula s writing is addicting and her characters are swoon fully delicious If you like strong females then you will love Janet Janet s demeanor is one every woman should have strong willed, stubborn, independent, caring, passionate, and fierce when called for Yes Janet is a woman I can totally identity with no man controls her life and she makes her own decisions Darach is a bit of a rogue but his tender heart bleeds songs of passion for a woman that is thrilling and beautiful inside and out than any other woman he s ever met or been with Darach doesn t want to tame and rule over Janet, no he wants her beneath him squirming and begging for Funny, Janet like Darach pens her words of passion but when it comes to expressing their feelings they find themselves boiling with frustration because they don t know how to approach the truth of their feelings But with one uncontrollable kiss and one night of claiming, everything they dreamed, penned, or love song sung bares their irresistible love This Beautiful story written with visionary words makes me want to live in their world forever I highly recommend this adventurous Highland novella and look forward to the next addition in the series EXCELLENT READ I was provided a copy by author via NetGalley for a fair and honest review 3.5 Stars After reading a little about Janet and Darach in The Seduction of Miss Amelia Bell last year, I was very intrigued Janet and Darach had so much tension between them in that book that I thought their story would be great Unfortunately, it s not what I expected.Janet is to marry a man who she despises due to her duty to her family, but she d be damned if the wedding actually happens Of course just in time, Darach comes to help with the situation Feeling out of choices, he decides the best way out is to marry Janet himself.Janet and Darach s story was short and sweet I love that Janet is strong willed and maybe even fierce She is always willing to fight for what she believes in Darach, well, what don t I like about him He is the epitome of a bad boy in quilt and a sword Most definitely fierce and man, I would love to go camping with him But what I didn t like so much was the angst between them and quickly replaced with love in a heartbeat I know they ve known each other from before and had some connection, but their romance came too quick for me Given some scenes were a must, due to duty or circumstance, but I would ve liked to see a little courtship or at least some time to truly fall for each other I feel that the story was rushed, and it would ve been a satisfying story if perhaps, it was a full length novel ARC provided by publisher The romance was short but sweet and it held me captivated the entire way This was a good historical highland romance Darach MacGregor and Janet Buchanan reunite in this short novella Janet was a strong heroine, the perfect woman for a fierce MacGregor As I d expected, Darach lived up to his family legacy He was a great alpha hero willing to do anything to save the woman he loved.Things moved fairly quickly, and the plot flowed smoothly For me these characters were wonderful and their romance utterly enthralling All in all, it was a lovely story that I enjoyed very much. I WAS PROVIDED WITH A COPY BY PUBLISHER VIA NETGALLEY FOR EXCHANGE OF A FAIR REVIEW A highlander of so many lasses, when less expected, has had his heart conquered by a woman of a rival clan.Janet and Darach story starts on The Seduction of Miss Amelia Bell book 1 , their story is small , you know there is attraction between them but you get to know about it in The Sweet surrender of Janet Buchanan.Janet is very independent , strong, smart and fearless woman, sister of Will Buchanan , chief of the Clan Buchanan.I could not stand Janet in book 1, but she had grown on me The Buchanan clan were living at the Ravenglade castle, propriety of the Grants, read The Seduction of Miss Amelia Bell to know about it when the chief of the Clan Menzie , Roddie Menzie, demanded to the Buchanan chief to give up the castle to him So, Will Buchanan asked Malcolm Grant owner of the castle, cousin to Darach to come to take of the matter but since he could not go because his sister was kidnapped by pirates which lead us to book 2 The Wicked ways of Alexander Kidd he sent Darach instead In the meantime Will promised his sister to Rodie Menzie , just to have some time until Grant get there But what Janet did not expect was Darach to come to her rescue, yes, he went to her rescue there was no way that Darch was going to let Janet marry other man Janet and Darach argued all the time, they never wanted to admit their feeling they have for the other, until , once in the castle Darach found out how she felt about him and that changed everything These two were made for each other, they deserve each other I became a fan of Paula Quinn with only reading 2 of her books, and I want The romance is very well developed each character has their own and unique personality you don t get bored with Paula s books, they are also funny, very romantic, The writing style is great, It makes wish I could live in one of her stories. Kathleen Kristen s Dual Review posted at Swept Away By RomanceWhat WorkedKathleen says Paula Quinn sure knows how to write a book with authentic Scottish brogue, it REALLY added a lot to my overall enjoyment of this story. The banter between Darach and Janet was fun to read.I really liked that Darach was a poet and a song writer He also said some very romantic things that made me fall in love with him.The sensual chemistry between Darach and Janet, I could REALLY feel the attraction they had for each other.Kristen says Janet and Darach s story was a nice introduction and set up for this new series. The witty banter between Janet and Darach They had a love hate relationship that was very amusing, and made it a fun read.I also loved that this was about the third generation of the MacGregor and Grant clans from a series perspective, and I think it s fantastic that readers get to move on with this family What Didn t WorkKathleen says The ending was abrupt I was expecting , but the end came at 75% on my Kindle which threw me for a loop I was NOT ready for it to end at that point, and thought there was going to be.Kristen says A dramatic event towards the end of the book felt somewhat fabricated and wrapped up too quickly This might have been necessary because of the book s length, but I wish the author would have considered giving this deserving couple a full length novel Janet and Darach s story didn t reach its full potential Best Scene s and or Quote s Kathleen says I really enjoyed the scene when Darach realized that Janet had been sleeping in his bed chamber after he had been gone from Ravenglade for a while It was funny reading how Janet tried to explain the letters that Darach had found in his chamber that she had written about him.Janet heard someone playing a lovely tune on the bagpipes only to find that it was Darach who was playing them. There was a very dramatic event involving Janet at the end which really affected Darach Then what he did after that was a very exciting part of the book Kristen says When Janet realizes that Darach has returned to the castle and she needs to move back to her own room It was a fun scene to read and I grinned the whole time.I also loved this scene and banter between the two of them How d ye know there are twenty six Menzies in their camp, she asked him How could he possibly know for certain Or where their camp is exactly I counted them He glanced up when their cook, Kevin, her cousin twice removed, entered the Great Hall Ye He wasn t just an arrogant fool, but also a mad, arrogant fool Ye counted them she asked him, almost speechless She cast her gaze to Will Aye, Darach told her, this mornin while they slept He was mad or utterly fearless and possibly able to get them out of this Why did ye not kill them all then Because as skilled a fighter as I am, I canna kill twenty six men at once Really, Miss Buchanan, plans must be made before an attack He cast her brother an impatient look, then returned his gaze to her Ye will bring m plans to ruin if ye try anything foolish She wanted to shout at him that she didn t care about his plans It was her life to be sacrificed to a bleating goat Was she supposed to entrust her life to a man she d met all but two times, and both times, he was beaten to a bloody mess He could barely defend himself, let alone her and a castle She was afraid.Favorite Character s Kathleen says My favorite character was Darach I thought the fact that he was a poet, a song writer and could play musical instruments was a refreshing character trait Of course, he was also a fearsome warrior and always ready to defend and keep his loved ones safe He was sexy, good in bed, and said some really romantic things which added to his overall appeal In my eyes he was the perfect Highland hero.Kristen says Janetshe was feisty, strong willed but yet vulnerable, the perfect blend for a heroine.Darachhe was a full fledged warrior with the heart of a poet At times it embarrassed him, but I loved his hard edges along with soft side Overall ThoughtsKathleen says The Sweet Surrender of Janet Buchanon grabbed my attention from start to finish For a it had a pretty jam packed story line Even though Darach was my favorite character I also LIKED Janet too She was smart, brave, strong and faced her fears head on I could easily feel the attraction these two had for each other Paula Quinn didn t disappoint with the heat level either These scenes were spicy and written very well, just the way I like them There were also a few action scenes that added excitement. It s been a while since I last read a book by Paula Quinn and after reading this book I can honestly say that I ve been missing out I now feel the need to read of her excellent Scottish romances 4 Stars Kristen says I really enjoyed this novella, it had a lot of depth , humor and characterization considering the length of the book However, I think Janet and Darach were a little short changed, they deserved to have their full story told, which in a way it was and sort of wasn t The book did focus on their relationship and not so much on what went on with the secondary characters, which I appreciated, but because I enjoyed these two so much I wanted Maybe a short epilogue would have done the trick and satisfied my need to know.a little peek into the future One thing I would recommend is that readers brush up on the past history of these families so you don t find yourself confused as to who is related to who There is a family tree in the beginning of this book which you can reference and it s a great tool to refresh your memory, it certainly helped me.Overall , The Sweet Surrender of Janet Buchanan was delight to read and I am very much looking forward to jumping back into clan life with the Grants and MacGregors 3.5 StarsA copy of the book was provided by the author and Grand Central Publishing via NetGalley ^Pdf ☝ The Sweet Surrender of Janet Buchanan (The
